A while ago i was hit by a couple viruses and some really horrible adware. My computer was practically useless. I got rid of most of the bad files, but some are still in there -- it's MUCH better than before though. I can't use IE anymore though -- it's laced with ads. Not that it matters. Now that I've tried Firefox, I absolutely love it! It's way better than any other browser I've used. Anyway, this computer is pretty old, so my computer geek friend is giving me a "new" one that is much faster and that has good protection against viruses and such. I can't wait!
I miss my mac -- I was spoiled for too long with a virus-free computer.
Does anyone else have a lot of problems with viruses? If so, what do you use to fight against them?

I DO! I just got hit twice since I moved out of the School. What I do to fight? Install ZoneAlarms and NEVER let any program runs!
Hey Julie, if your PC is hit by Virus, you had better do not enter any passwords or credit card. You may be a victim of such attack.
Ya, how's your exams ?

I use Norton's to take care of viruses and then I've found that the spyware can cause more than its fair share of headaches. To take care of that, I use adaware. The two of them keep me running pretty well.

I was actually using ad-aware Personal SE. It detected all the viruses and adware, but it failed to remove many of the damaging files from my computer. The one adware that I had that was especially nasty was called "Spy Sheriff". I still haven't rid of all of it, and if I wanted to rid of it completely, my computer-geek friend would have to make a house call. I'm not going to bother since he's giving me a newer one soon anyway.
I actually did use my credit card and online banking. After my friend told me that one of the viruses was the type that steals your information and posts it on websites, I changed all my passwords from another computer and got a new VISA. I haven't used online banking or used my credit card online since.
My exams are over now and they went really well, Guitarman. It was soooooo stressful, but I'm really pleased with my final marks Thanks for asking!

Viruses are pretty nasty. Thankfully adaware and AVG are pretty good at getting them out. Firefox will help a lot too.

go with Zone alarm or get Norton antivirus - they are the best as long as you keep updating the definition files
