What can ActionScript do?

Hi flashERs,

I don't know anything about flash, and i want to know whether i should embark on it for my next vacation.

my question is "what can ActionScript can do?"

Can it do sth as 80% of Java?

Actionscript is script that is used for controlling Flash movies and application.

ActionScript is similar to Javascript. It different only that Javascript is used deal with windows, documents and forms whereas ActionScript deal with movie-clips, sounds, and text-fields.

I don't know abt Java. So, I can't compare ActionScript with Java.

U know javascript, u could use actionscript too.

Hmm..

What i want to know is its ability to code the program. Ex. C is used to write operating systems. Java is coded in the high level and sophiticated manner.

How about Flash? Can it be used to construct high programming techniques like Polymorphism, Inheritant, OOP....? More importantly, if it can implement like Java framework, it's really fantastic.

Khmerguy has a valid point about Actionscript is used to control the movie clip.

As far as I know, Actionscript is more into Multimedia type of application. You could create an e learning courware with Flash. Or you can actually create a full fledge e commerce site with Flash (Of course with the help of server side language such as JSP or PHP).

Another application for flash is online gamine.

Actually, we can't really compare Flash actionscript to other programming language. Since one is for controlling movieclip timeline or interactivity and the other is more for real business application.
