I have a small in-house server, what would be the best hardware to have?
To start your own "very small" hosting company, what are all the tools and components needed? Do you need a dedicated IP?

Well you can get a free domain here
http://www.dyndns.com/services/pricing/index.html#dns
though its more for people hosting their own sites so if you are looking to do shared hosting then a fixed ip (from isp) and domain hosting would be needed.
Software is free if using apache / php /mysql setup ..just google and get.
A fast netconnection will be needed and good reliable hardware.
I've even used our local network software to host our site at times...took five minutes to set up so technically it's not rocket science...most sites main hassles are to do with misuse and hacking though software is improving all the time and set safe ground rules from the beginning...look around existing sites to get a feel of what does and doesn't work.
And there's always help on the net
have fun

1) Make sure that it can run 24/7 (UPS, Good power supply such as ACBell)
2) Make sure that you have a fix ip. If can not have fix ip, then register a free from noip or dyndns.
3) Make sure that your modem is open port 80 and point port 80 to your server
4) Your server is installed correct Webserver (Apache)
5) If u have any problem, I can help
