Has anyone used Maya? Is it hard to learn? How much does it cost? And, Do I have to have a beefy PC to use it.

I would suggest that you use Photoshop, simply because it is the most used and probably the most supported in terms of tutorials, brushes, etc.

Maya 3D is for 3D design.
Explanation and features.
Maya Personal is free. It's a learning edition though; images are watermarked. It is ment for 3D design. You can download it from here.
For 3D graphics you usually need a good PC with a strong graphic card and a lot of memory, but just try and see.
Maya 8 full version costs $1,999. Other "student" versions prices are about $300. Check.

most are free so maybe just try a few and see which you are comfortable with.
We have a good one called picture publisher which came with a scanner but they were taken over by coral and the program is no longer availble...nice and easy for beginners yet has many advanced features hidden away...now you may find a copy if you look in the right places...
have fun ... play with new software as a child would a toy...the best way to learn
