how to rank high in Google?

I was asked the other day at work place that "How can I get my site to display in Google search engine result Page"..

First of all, it's not difficult to LIST your site to google/yahoo or any search engines. All you have to do is to submit your "completed" site to the search engines for crawling.

For Google: http://www.google.com/addurl
For Yahoo: http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html (require registration)
For MSN: http://submitit.bcentral.com/msnsubmit.htm

Submitting your site to these search engines Does NOT guarantee any placement on the search result page. It is just for them to spider your site and know that your site exists.

Second, you need to have a good quality full of "specific" keywords in your website. This comes to the fact that Content is the king. What it means is that the more content you have, the more keywords your site has. Hence, you are targetting various different keywords and chances are people will find your site by one of those keywords.

Thirdly, like Klass(CXP member) has mentioned IBL counts! I agree! This is especially true for Google search engines. Google, I think, put lots of weight in inbound links. IBL also helps boost your google page rank.

Finally, be wise when choosing keywords because you do not want to compete with the tought xxx xxx xxx strong sites out there. Choose those keywords that are not very competitive i.e. and have a high number of people search for that keyword.

One thing that can help getting more of your pages in google is to use their sitemap tool as well. I believe it is www.google.com/sitemap

Why submit your site to google? If you have IBL it doesn't need to be submitted, google will find you anyway! ( google has crawlers who index your site ) And alot of SE's use google's database so just get inbound links, don't get your site submitted or anything, it will come by itself!

Klaas, you are right but now the question is: how to get inbound link? I find it pretty hard to get inbound links heh..

Guitarman, start writing articles on subjects related to your site and submit them to article submission sites. Also just search for terms in search engines which match your website's topic and then mail the owners asking for a link exchange!

That, and I've heard that directory submission can be quite effective in getting your rating up. You can find someone to manually submit your site for to about 100 directories for a few bucks.
