yesterday, after fun chatting evening with my cambodian friends at NTU at around 10 pm, I decided to take taxi back home.
Taxi Driver: Good evening Sir, where to sir?
Me: Ang Mo Kio Ave 1 please...
Taxi Driver: going home after visiting friend sir?
Me: ya...
.......... at the cross road, the driver bagan to ask:
Taxi Driver: Which way to sir?
with stunning look and sleepy face, i replied
Me: Hmm... i dont know, whichever way getting me to my home faster.
This happends not just once or twice, but it happens most of the time whenever i board singapore taxi. That night, i decided to ask question to my Singapore taxi driver on why he keeps on asking customer "Which way, Sir?" even though most of us, the singapore taxi customer, have no clue of the ways. His reply was:
Taxi Driver: Most customer would complain about why the driver choose this way and not the other. Sometimes customer complains to the company customer care. In turn, customer care would call to us and see what happens. Most of the compaints are from the "choice of road".
As the matter of fact, the Singapore taxi driver does the asking for a good sake: to reduce his risk of being complained and to give customer choice to pay less(those who know the road well).
The next time, you board singapore taxi driver and being asked "which way to, Sir", do not feel puzzled, simply reply "way to my home please "
