Hi experts,
I don't have much experience about setting up ftp server, but I did read some instructions to connect it using IIS. It worked when I did it, but the problem is that my server can be connected locally only.
In NTU, they have private IP(e.g. 172.20.58.36), and the real IP is something like this: 155.69.5.234. When I tried to connect in NTU network, it worked well with private IP, but I don't know how to be connected from outside.
Anyone knows this??

Hello SingaChea,
May be you chould try to use real IP instead of Proxy server for NTU. Try this:
1- Open your internet explorer
2- Click Tools > Intenet Options. (by this time, the internet options window is already popup).
3- Click on Connections tab
4- Click on the Lan Settings button.
5- In the address field, you would have something like http://www.ntu.edu.sg/proxy.pac . Now, clear that field and input the IP number as 155.69.4.223. Input the same IP address to the Proxy server address.
6- Click Ok and try your ftp again
I hope this helps, otherwise you may approach the NTU CITS hotline and they may be able to help you on this.

I don't think it works. What you told me is something to connect for internet, but my problem is that the outside can't access my ftp site. What I meant is that the local computers in ntu network have different private IP namely such as 172.20..., but if i try to source its real ip via (danasoft.com or iplocator...), all the network points have the same ip 155.69.5.234 even in library except my lab.
I did try to connect this address (155....) but it didn't allow...

Yes, you are right that what i have mentioned is about connecting to Internet using NTU network.
I've learnt that NTU has block up some port if you are using the Private IP address through the proxy.ntu.edu.sg and hence if you use the real ip i.e. 155.69.4.223, it may helps because I,myself, have used it to connect to one of my webhost served in different port number.
In your case, if the real ip address does not work, i doubt it is due to firewall.

May i know what does it say? i.e. what not allow?

I guess this problem is due to Firewall set by server admin. The purpose to the LAN is for the benefits of local nodes. If outside node is allowed to access the LAN, there might be security problem. However, this might be able to be done by approaching server admin for persmission for that specific outside node.

Hee...
Yes, i think you are right, but the problem is that computer admin in NTU is looking for anyone who shares piracy software. I don't want to be a victim of that
