Okay khemer here are just a few ways to get them, if you are interested in more, let me know:
-write articles about your sites subject and submit them to article submission sites. They allow you to add a link plus text under your article. Your article will be taken over by other websites aswell meaning your article can come on hundreds of sites, meaning 100's of IBL
(http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=6+steps+to+your+own+website&btnG=Search ) - the first article I have written, look in google how many use it.. it was not a great article but people did use it!
You can also add your websites adress link in your signature which will and can get you alot of ibl and traffic aswell
- Also requesting link exchanges on forums and even direct mailing other webmasters can increase your IBL rating aswell. I'd go for exchanges with people's websites who have thesame subject as yours though!
- Directory Submissions. I have submitted my site to around 300 directories. This is also an easy way to get IBL and PR.
I hope this will help you some more!

Trading links can also work. I will send e-mails to relevant sites and ask to get a listing on their site for one on my own site. This is a pretty decent return rate, and can get you natural traffic as well.

The thing with this is, it will not only publish your link on alot of sites, but will also show people that you are a master of what you do. I mean if you write something really great about let's say webmasters ( and you have a webmaster related site ) then your name will be published on alot of sites, which will make your site trustworthy to all!
So to make a long story short, yes it can really bring in great traffic AND IBL

Defenitely! It is also a great way to get your name around the webmasters of sites you work in! This is good for you and yours site's reputation!

Thanks for that help, klaas. The article is actually quite handy too! I'd never thought of this from the angle of reputation for your site, it's encouraging me to do it more.

We find the best way is to get to know other website owners and exchange links....and meet a lot of new friends along the way...

well I agree a very important tool in getting links or anything else from other webmasters is to spread your name, go on to forums and post, talk to others, help others out! Then they are easier to linking to you!

People are quite often curious about who's been to their website. I always comment and sign guest books, say hello in forums, etc. Word of mouth is a wonderful thing!
