I did not know that every country had a labor day, but it seems like many do. In the United States it is not illegal to work on labor day, but it is a National Holiday. This means all federal employees and government employees are off, that banks are closed etc. For everyone else it is a holiday so they either get a day off or another day off the same week but a lot of people still work.

Haha... you got an idea to sue company right? go ahead! you may sue them that they put an inappropriate deadline forcing you to work on public holiday.

It's not against the law to work on Labor Day though it's a holiday so your schools, federal offices, etc. are all closed. Those who have to work on the holiday frequently get paid overtime. I never minded working on holidays.. gave me more money!

It's not illegal here in Canada, but most people get the day off. Well, it's not called labour day here, it's called Victoria Day (I think). I work on monday, so I get time and a half (woo!) - it is law that they have to pay you overtime.
