Hahah
You now got the headache problem. I don't think you have only one way to do it.
Personally, I think you should back up important data from your laptop first, and I suppose that you use laptop with Windows Xp professional.
1. You can repair your Windows without affecting your cram programs in your drive since it will uninstall the volunerable system files and replace the new one. Doing this may erase the spyware and viruses in Windows systems.
2. After you repair it, you can update some security software such as ZoneAlarm, Windows update, ....
I think it should be ok after you repair it.
I'm waiting for reply

|
|
Nightmare has finally arrived. Last weekend, I decided to format my laptop. With little sleep the day before, I just anyhow try to set up my pc.
With Window XP CD on hand, i inserted it into my PC and restart my PC. It went on to boot from the window CD. After several minutes, I was asked to choose drive to set up on. Without looking at the disk size and notice that there is only one drive on (Drive C), I click "Enter" and "Enter" again without even bother to ask myself "What if...". >>That is where the nightmare finally arrived. EVERYTHING has gone including my other two Partition drived where I kept all my software, documentation and Resume. I exclaim "WTF"!!!

Did you forget to back up the data before you formatted your drive? Do you try to use data recovery or not yet? I heard it would work to recover your lost data. However, I'm not sure since I have never tried.

At first, I have backed up my data into my other two partition drive: drive D and E. However, the recovery CD that i have inserted did only say that there's drive C. Hey, I though, may be the CD is smart enough to detect where my window drive is. Hence, as a result of "two" enters, there you go, everything has gone.
>>Data recovery? Can tell me the name if not the link to download, hehe.

Actually i'm not quite sure about this. However, you can try to see these links:

From my experiences of installing Windows many and many times (reformatting addict), Windows Xp will detect the previous Windows version first. After that it will ask you to repair or not repair. Next, it will ask to choose the partition to install. This is the way of normal cracked CD does. Nevertheless, some CDs that I came across will not ask which partition to be installed, and it will automatically install by itself.
Backing up data should be done with external drives avoiding the problem like yours.
