Since year 2005 is about to come to an end soon, it will be worth some of our time to take a flash back at what have happened to computer security in year 2005.

1) More people know of the term 'Phising' and does that mean there will be a reduce in the number of phising cases this year? Howard Schmidt believes the answer is YES - Less people fall into the trap of Phising scam.

2) Year after year, Microsoft seems to have never ending security patches for users to update their IE and Windows, as long as the ones who seems to have ever more time than usual people (hackers) stop their 'exploration in the vulnerabilities of Microsoft products', or when Microsoft able to think ahead of the hackers and come out with a one time security patch update that guarantees to be virus-proof.

3) More and more people get comfortable with computers and the giant information source - Internet. Despite an increasing number of security threats, this will not stop the increasing number of users logging on to the Internet to search for information, to share and gain knowledge, to buy and sell things, to the other parts and regions of the world.

4) CardSystems was closed down in October this year, even after the increase in security updates within the organization. This is perhaps because they have lost the trust of the consumers by having 40 million credit card numbers being stolen.

Here are only some of the security cases in year 2005 I can recall, what about you? What other major security issues have happened in year 2005 that affects you, your friends and family?

CardSystem is a company which acted as a middle man for many of the well-known credit card companies such as MasterCard and Visa. It acted as a one-stop service centre where it helped to provide credit card services on behalf of the companies, thus reduce the trouble to go to different website of the credit cards that you are using.

And because of the case involving the leak of the clients' personal information, the credit card companies (MasterCard, Visa and many more) afraid that their customers might lose trust in them too, and decided to pull out from the CardSystem partnership scheme, thus resulted in the bankruptcy of CardSystem.

Hope I've answered your question Smile

Wow, it is scary to hear about Cardsystem. The internet is definitely changing. People are finally starting to understand the power of hackers.
