Good reliable free Webhosting without ads and with a technical support is hard to find.
So far I've found only one which fulfill all above criteria:
http://Zoomcities.com
1Gb of space, 20Gb bandwith, PHP, mySQL, cPanel, free domain hosting (not sure or is it only a subdomain). I hope the offer is still open.

They have paid plans also, they offer this free one in hope customers will upgrade, but there's no pushing about it.
No ads.

Wow spoilt for choice
awardspace seems to do as it says 500k file limit may affect some though
Finding a free host with mail() or smtp is a bit hard to find....
