I am no designer so design a website is a daunting task for me. What usually I do is to buy a ready made template and fix it to my needs.
The following is a great place to buy template:
1- boxedart
Good for value. With only 49.99US$ you get to download all of the template. What is bad is that you have to wait a certain amount of time before you next download. As I said: It's good for value. Meaning that their template may looks great but fixing it to your need may be difficult and sometimes you may break the whole site. I had bad experience with Flash template that I tried to make change to suit my needs once.
2- Template Monster
Good quality template, both flash and webpage layout. Each package can cost you around 50US$ that comes with PSD files, images, free icons etc. You go for quality with template monster.

My view:
---------------------------
Although I have never bought those above, I have tried both of them using their free template. My only suggestion is that if you want more ideas, go for boxart but if you would like to go for quality, template monster is a place to go for.

I know simple html - I can make a website myself, but I really can't stand doing it. It just gives me a headache, hehe. I know a bit about some web design programs, but those can be a hassle as well. Those template sites are a good idea, Guitarman

Don't forget that $50 is just a common price, not a unique price. Moreover, flash template is really not flexible at all. You may try fCMS, but they charge at a very high price.

Interesting. I have done all my design work to date, but I am not close to being any kind of an artist. I will definately check out these resources.

Singachea, actually you may try to download the one from templatemonster. They are great! You can change their PSD files to suit your need.
Hey Triumph, welcome to the forum What design are you building? offline or online content?
Julie, I guess you can go through wordpress way if you dont like designing, hahah, I have two sites based on wordpress.

Funny you would say that. I didn't know what wordpress was, but I just checked it out. I was actually thinking of doing something like that, so I'm glad you mentioned it. Feels kind of like the lazy way of doing things though, but at the same time, I like simplicity (plus I'm kind of lazy. heheh). I think the less a person has happening on their site, the better. Well, as long as a person can navigate around a website easily - that's pretty important I think.
Guitarman, are you really a DJ?

Hey julie, if you are lazy like me, just use the existed CMS. You may try phpNuke, Joomla, drupal, ...

who's not lazy here, raise hand
haha, i think everyone's lazy. I think to have one site's up isn't an easy task if you want it to success. There's simply much competition on the web.

Oh I like do it my self instead of buying those even if it's not professional.
Those themplate are suitable to large Corporation or business organization.
Anyway, we can get an idea from those themplates to put in our designing.
