6 years ago [year 1999], Internet was something most cambodian never thought or know about. Now, I would consider Internet is an indispensable tool for some of us, young, adult and old folk. With this techonology, it has help us in many ways i.e. research on our assignment, find out about our curiousity, or even to entertain ourselve.
However, language is still a barrier to exploit this new kind of technology. Today, i would like to discuss 3 ways to make a site in Khmer Language.
Macromedia Media Flash is a way to go
The macromedia flash player 6 supports Unicode text encoding for flash movies. This ability has greatly help developers to develop flash applications in foreign language without worrying whether the users have particular fonts installed. Personally i feel this is the best way to display khmer fonts on the web without any worry that the viewers do not have any khmer fonts installed. Embedded fonts
This is another way to display khmer fonts on the web. You may use Microsoft Web Embedding Fonts Tool (WEFT) to create a font with extention .eot which you need to upload to the web server. [Read more at http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,1309279,00.asp.]
Khmer Unicode
The Khmer Unicode has gained its popularity in recents years thank to the initiative by Open forum of cambodia and NIDA. However, this method requires the viewers' PC to have khmer unicode fonts installed. Hopefully, in the future, khmer unicode will become a standard where every PC does not have to have the khmer unicode fonts to view the site. [Read more at http://www.khmeros.info/drupal/.]
Finally, the choices is yours! Choose it wisely
